A newly-launched radio program in Eastern Chad is empowering women refugees from Darfur.

Women's Crossroads was launched by an organization called Radio Sila specifically designed by journalists to address the information needs of women living in the area.

Latin American journalists and media outlets that cover the region's development can submit works to a "Latin America and the Millennium Development Goals" contest. Deadline: July 15.

Works can focus on poverty, hunger, education, gender inequity, maternal health and infant mortality, the fight against AIDS and environmental sustainability, among other topics.

Professional female journalists can now apply for the Moremi Initiative for Women’s Leadership in Africa, which seeks to develop and promote emerging young African women who have shown leadership in their professions. Deadline: April 30.
