    An awards program will recognize an outstanding televised program for or about children that covers a child’s rights issue.

    Journalists from Eastern Europe and Central Asia, South Asia, Southeast and East Asia and the South Pacific have until June 30 to submit entries, which must have been broadcast between June 2007 and May 2008.

    The United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) is accepting entries from radio and television broadcasters from across the globe for the 2008 International Children’s Day Broadcasting (ICDB) Awards. The deadline for submissions is May 16.

    A new report by the World Association of Newspapers entitled “Engaging Young Readers” has found that newspaper companies are confident about their success attracting a new generation of readers. This optimism comes amidst criticism that print media is shrinking as an industrial format in an increasingly digital world.

  • Reporting internships available in Ghana

    The Ghana Media Advocacy Program (GMAP) is looking for journalists interested in interning in Ghana for three months from February through April 2008 on a reporting project investigating child trafficking in developing countries. Deadline: December 20.

    The internship is open to student journalists, working journalists and NGO activists interested in learning about blogging, vlogging (video blogging) and podcasting.

    UNICEF and the Institute for the Further Education of Journalists (Fojo) invite journalists to apply for a course on reporting on children from December 17 to December 21. Deadline: December 7.

    Course topics include children’s rights in Sri Lanka, reporting on child abuse and delinquency, child sex and child labor, use of images, and ethical concerns.

  • Reporting prize in Serbia highlights children’s rights

  • Investigative journalists invited to participate in competition

    Azerbeijani and Georgian investigative journalists can participate in a competition sponsored by the regional media investigations project, “Development of Media Investigations in the Caucasus” beginning November 15.  The deadline to submit the first story is December 15.

    Nicaraguan journalists have until November 1 to enter the National Press Competition for the Rights of Children and Adolescents. Prizes will go to works from the press, radio, and TV.

  • Journalism and childhood to be themes of forum in Argentina

    An upcoming event in Argentina will address various issues related to childhood as a subject of news coverage. The second National Forum of Journalism and Childhood is scheduled for November 20 in Córdoba.
