    Journalists from Honduras, Panama, Liberia and Lebanon are invited to apply for a journalism fellowship on Human Rights that will be held in Geneva, Switzerland from November 1 to 10. The deadline to apply is September 30.

  • Small grants available for media development in Russia

    Date: 8/26/10

    Nonprofit organizations in Russia are encouraged to apply for small grants to support independent media and access to information projects in the country. Deadline: Rolling.

    The maximum amount for a grant is US$24,000, but organizations applying for the first time cannot receive grants in excess of US$7,000.

    The program is supported by the U.S. Embassy in Moscow.

  • Russian competition to award works on human rights

    Journalists from select regions in Russia who cover human rights issues and education are encouraged to submit their works to a competition. Deadline: September 15.

    Entries can be from print, online and broadcast media. Citizen journalists may also submit works. Applicants must be from Nizhniy Novgorod, Novosibirsk, Voronezh regions or Permskiy Kray.

  • Human rights coverage to be awarded in Central Asia

    Journalists are invited to submit works to a competition that will award coverage of human rights and human rights education in Central Asia. Deadline: September 1.

    The competition is aimed at developing human rights, increasing coverage of human rights violations, educating citizens and supporting journalists in Central Asia.

  • Journalism festival to take place in Romania

    European journalists can attend the European Festival of Journalism in Targu Jiu, Romania from September 9 to 12.

    Attendees will have a chance to network and discuss their experiences with new media, human rights and journalists' safety.

    The festival is supported by the UNESCO Romanian National Commission, European Journalism Center and other organizations.

  • Prize open to European journalists who promote diversity

    Online and print journalists in the European Union who contribute to a better understanding of the benefits of diversity and the fight against discrimination can submit works to a competition. Deadline: September 17.

  • Competition seeks works on HIV/AIDS, human rights

    Journalists from Eastern Europe and Central Asia who cover human rights and HIV/AIDS are invited to submit works to a competition. Deadline: August 15.

    There are two nomination categories -- for registered media and citizen journalists. Potential topics include coverage of local treatment practices, human rights and others.

  • Human rights documentary festival accepting entries

    Documentary filmmakers interested in human rights and social change around the world are encouraged to submit entries to an international documentary film festival in Budapest. Deadline for submission: August 31.

    The 7th Verzio International Film Festival will run from November 2 to 7.

  • Southeast Asian fellowship will examine regional cooperation

    Southeast Asian journalists are encouraged to apply for a month-long fellowship that will examine the efforts of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) to create "One Community" in the region. Deadline: May 17.

  • Youth contest seeks essays on private enterprise, democracy

    Deadline:

    6/18/10

    Young writers, aged 18 to 30, from across the world are invited to submit essays on how to create opportunities for youth to strengthen democracy and the private sector in their own countries. Deadline to apply: June 18.

    The competition is seeking essays in three categories: 1) Democracy that delivers, 2) enterpreneurship and society and 3) women and participation.
