The National Union of Somali Journalists (NUSOJ) issued a report on March 12 declaring the nation's new Media Law “falls short of meeting International standards and principles of democratic media law,” the Arab Press Network reports. The law, which was passed on December 8 by the Transitional Federal Parliament of Somalia, does little to encourage a vibrant and open press, the Network says.

Cartagena de Indias, Colombia, will host the next regional forum for media development, organized by Fundación Nuevo Periodismo Iberoamericano (FNPI). The event is scheduled for March 13-14.

Journalists will soon be able to register for a conference on media laws and Arab reporting, to be held in London on June 20.

The event aims to bring awareness to legal obstacles to the comprehensive reporting of Arab news.

Federation of Nepali Journalists, Freedom Forum release analysis

Journalists can now access an analysis of the Nepalese Right to Information Act 2007 released by the Federation of Nepali Journalists (FNJ) and Freedom Forum (FF). The Right to Information Act grants every Nepali citizen the right to access information held by public bodies.
