    Radio and TV stations that participated in last year's International Children's Day of Broadcasting can submit their programs for an annual award. Entry deadline: June 2.

    The idea behind the International Children's Day of Broadcasting (ICDB) is to promote the role that radio and TV can have in raising awareness of children's rights and quality children's programming.

  • Contest recognizes reporting on child abuse

    Brazilian reporters can submit project proposals for a competition that encourages more press coverage on the abuse and sexual exploitation of minors. Submission deadline: July 31.

  • Forum in Dubai addresses coverage of child rights

    A meeting of Arab journalists and human rights groups to discuss the rights of children, and how best to raise awareness of those rights, began May 2 and was to last until May 4 in Dubai, United Arab Emirates.

    The theme of the second Arab Media and Child Rights Forum is the state of girls’ education in the Arab world, according to a news release.

  • Young people to make short videos in Salzburg

    Young people who are from Czech Republic, Hungary, Slovenia or Slovakia and interested in video production can apply for an upcoming workshop in Austria. Application deadline: April 20.

    The One Minutes Jr. workshop is scheduled for May 28 to June 1 in Salzburg. Twenty participants aged 12 to 20 will learn how to produce one-minute videos on any topic they choose. The films will then be screened at a festival in Salzburg.

  • Iraqi teachers learn about newspapers’ functions

    Several Arab newspaper editors recently met with Iraqi schoolteachers, in a step toward developing a culture of newspaper-reading among young people.

    The meeting took place on February 15 and 16 in Cairo, the Arab Press Network reported. Editors from Egypt, Iraq and Sudan participated in the workshop with 15 Iraqi teachers to talk about the Newspaper in Education (NIE) campaign. The World Association of Newspaper (WAN) Young Reader Development Project organized the event in cooperation with UNESCO.

  • Commonwealth Press Union conducts training in Africa, Asia

    Journalists in several African and Asian countries will benefit from upcoming training programs organized by the Commonwealth Press Union (CPU).

    Over the next two months, CPU is planning different programs for media professionals in Ghana, Kenya, New Guinea, Pakistan and Tanzania. Only journalists working full-time for newspapers or news agencies that are members of CPU are eligible.

  • Child rights award presented to three journalists, station

    Three journalists were among those receiving awards from the UN Children’s Fund (UNICEF) for their coverage of issues related to children’s rights in Serbia-Montenegro.

    The B92 TV and radio network in Belgrade also received special recognition. UNICEF presented the awards to mark Universal Children’s Day on November 21.
