  • Fellowship sends South African journalists to study in U.S.

    Duke University in the United States will accept two South African journalists for a three-week fellowship program. Applications are due in January.

    The Clive Menell Fellowship consists of a series of seminars with international journalists on policy issues and current events in the media, public policy, economics, international relations and new media. The program will take place in March and April.

  • Journalists to exchange ideas on democracy in region

    Veteran print and broadcast journalists from Central Asia, the Caucasus and Moldova have until January 24 to apply for a training program in Sweden.

    The Sweden-based Institute for Further Education of Journalists (FOJO) and the University of Kalmar are organizing the Journalism and Democracy course, scheduled for May 8 to 27. The course will include lectures, discussions and practical exercises to analyze the conditions for journalists in different countries and compare their situations with that of Sweden.

    In Asuncion. Organized by participants of the “Periodistas Paraguay” listserv, an open discussion forum sponsored by the Knight Center for Journalism in the Americas. Argentine journalist Sandra Crucianelli will lead the workshop. Topics include understanding government statistics, estimating sizes of news events such as marches and rallies, and infographics.

  • Math to be theme of workshop in Asuncion

    An upcoming workshop for Paraguayan journalists is based on the idea that math and statistics are often the difference between “he said, she said” reporting and quality journalism.

    The workshop is scheduled for December 14 to 17 at the Universidad Americana in Asuncion, Paraguay. It is organized by participants of the “Periodistas Paraguay” listserv, an open discussion forum sponsored by the Knight Center for Journalism in the Americas.

  • IJP exchange program offers fellowships to Asian journalists

    Experienced journalists from six Asian countries have until the end of 2005 to apply for a fellowship program in Germany. Organized by the International Journalist Program (IJP), the fellowship includes training and the opportunity to work with German media.

  • Conference gathers Arab broadcasters in Beirut

    A conference that will gather Arab broadcasters together to discuss industry concerns and learn about new technology is scheduled for December 8 to 10 in Lebanon.

    Middle East Broadcasters (MEB) is organizing the MEB 2005 Conference, with support from ArabSat and Selevision. The gathering will take place at the Beirut International Exhibition and Leisure Center.

  • Southeast Asian journalists' delegation tours China

    A group of Southeast Asian journalists were on a study tour in China, as part of a visitor’s program between China and the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN).

    The Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs organized the visit. The 10-day tour includes meeting with the Chinese government officials and visits to notable and historic sites. The group included journalists from each ASEAN country except Thailand, according to the state-run China Daily newspaper.

  • Dictionary addresses Spanish linguistic issues

    The directors of about 20 Spanish and Latin American media outlets signed an agreement to make common use of a dictionary that aims to solve linguistic questions.

  • Canadian journalists train colleagues in Haiti
