High number of journalists forced into exile

The number of journalists who have fled their home countries because of direct threats and violence doubled in the last year, according to a survey conducted by the Committee to Protect Journalists.

At least 82 journalists, mostly from Iraq and Somalia, have fled their countries in the last 12 months, the survey reported. Most of the journalists were forced into exile after they’d been assaulted and threatened, and 19 were forced to leave their countries because of government violence, including repeated interrogations and detention.

The survey showed that 22 of the journalists who fled their countries were Iraqis, and 21 were Somalis. Other journalists were from Chad, Colombia, Eritrea, Sri Lanka, The Gambia, Cuba and other conflicted countries.

Many journalists face an equally hard life after they leave their countries, the report said. On their way to resettlement, they have to live as refugees and endure hard economic and social conditions. The survey reported that less than a third of journalists who went into exile since 2001 have found jobs related to journalism.

Why some many j

Why some many journalists are forced into exile while editors and deputy editors are living the high live on behalf those journalists work should be i think one of the topic as well, But any way i really think that those journalists who are forced into exile are not really out to look for another job or better job than the one they do like must. When you flee your home country for fear or been threated by some policitians or members of the government like in Cameroon where i came from, you have or must prepare yourself outside to live as a refugee because you wwnt there to seek for a refuge and not for a better job. While there as a refugee you can still doing your job as journalist but at this time as a volunteer because, you arent allow to work according to the immigration law. And only when you have that right to work or the one granted you the stay in a third country that you can now work. First journalists forced into exile shouldnt forcget that they are there for safety and not for better live, anyway better would or will only come after a certain amount of time beeng in that country where you seek asylum. So journalists should be aware of what they might be going throught in those country. Journalists who are forced into exile are not economic migrant but asylum seekers i think..And there is a huge difference between those categories.

The report was

The report was missled, because the journalists who fled Mogadishu Somalia only are more than 21 and you said all journalists who fled from Somalia in that period are 21. the number of journalists who fled Somalia in 12 months are more than 43, among them all the freelancer journalists who the media watch dogs don't respect as members of the media. the only thing they respect you as journalist is when you are from a Media house as full employee or owner.
