World AIDS Day 2009: Reporting on HIV/AIDS

On World AIDS Day 2009, we are grateful for the many journalists around the world reporting on the HIV/AIDS pandemic. The following are just a few useful resources to help inform your reporting. If you know of additional resources for reporting on HIV/AIDS, please share them below!

Internews Network's Local Voices program has created two manuals on journalism and HIV/AIDs reporting, designed for trainers. Print copies of the manuals are available for sale and pdf versions may be downloaded for free. Access them here.

The International Women's Media Forum in partnership with the United Nations Development Programme, created a manual for media professionals to use in improving and increasing their coverage of HIV/AIDS in Africa. Access it here.

The Kaiser Family Foundation's A-Z HIV/Aids reporting practical guide covers the basics of HIV/AIDS reporting. It provides tips on how to pitch stories to editors, and gives advice on ethical reporting. Lists are provided on additional resources with a glossary, a timeline of the history of HIV, details on treatments and more. Access it here.
